The article “Competencies Required for Digital Curation” was helpful in considering not only the skills needed in digital curation but also the span of work involved with digital curation. The article describes digital curation as, “all activities involved in managing data.” As the importance of digtial information grows, so too does the scope of content and work requiring digital curation.
While digital curation includes facilitating access, discovery, and sustainability of resources—work librarians have always done—it will also require some additional education and training information professionals may not have. This includes: digitzation, understanding software, project management, metadata, markup language like XML and HTML, and database design.
The methodology of the study looked at actual job advertisements to analyze skills and experience requested. I found this study very informative and helpful.
